WEEK 8

Sketch #4: Alice in Wonderland,
but written by someone
who doesn’t really
remember the story

Using Inform 7

Here is a small part of the tea party scene, not the full story, of course.

I made three rooms:
- The woods connect east to the table.
- The garden is north of the table.
- I put the teapot, the watch, the hat, the bread, and the three characters in the tea party room.

talk to lets you speak to them.
pour tea
is a command (it gives you a cup).
The garden door checks for that cup.
If you do not have it, the Hare stops you.
If you do, the door opens, and the game ends.

You are at the edge of the woods and these are the commands that can make stuff happen in the game.

Moving:
e goes to the tea party
w goes back to the woods
n tries the garden door
look or l describes where you are

People:
talk to hatter
talk to hare
talk to dormouse

x hatter, x hare, x dormouse

The table:
x table, x teapot, x watch, x hat, x bread
pour tea fills a cup. You need that cup before n will let you into the garden.
take watch, take hat, take bread
wear hat
eat bread

After you pour: drink tea or x cup

A full play-through is e, then talk to hatter, pour tea, n.

WEEK 5

Sketch #3: Let’s Do the Dishes (ADHD Simulator)

Environmental Storytelling with Bitsy.

Link to the game is HERE

How I made the Bitsy game:

I made this using make.bitsy.org. It started with a black floor, pink walls and numbers, and green for me and the objects.

I drew myself and one room split into four, with gaps for doors. I put the objects in order, numbered them 1 through 6, and gave each one a line that shows when you walk into it.

The title says "Let's do the Dishes." The arrow keys let you move, and you can only leave through the gaps.

You start in the kitchen to do the dishes, follow the numbers, and get pulled into the next thing each time, and at the end, the dishes are still sitting there.

I made it as an ADHD simulator because on my worst days, it feels like there's no throughline to my actions, just a never-ending chain of events.

WEEK 4

Sketch #2: Update on our Marriage

Use Twine to make something.

Link to the story is HERE

This story was taken from a fake flyer that I found on Reddit. It's made such a lasting impression on me that I wanted to use it for this sketch (for practice purposes). It uses linear branching with an ending that seems to go in circles. Meaning, no matter which option you choose in the checklist or what you type in the text boxes, you still end up choosing Darlene.

Some of the Twine features I implemented:

- Each page has a different passage or scene
- Links at bottom for navigation (back/forward/start again using [[text|page name]] format)
- External images using <img src=“”>  (images hosted on cargo site)
- Basic HTML styling: bold:  <strong>, <img>
- SugarCube macros: <<textbox>> for user input
- Variables: $player_income for storing textbox input
